WEEE and Qual-IT

Every year the UK throws away around 2 million tonnes of waste. Qual-IT has strong environmental views with regard to waste products and the disposal of equipment that are laid out below. We can help you to dispose of your equipment in an environmentally friendly way.

Most of us are now familiar with the WEEE Regulations (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) which aim to reduce waste and improve recycling by showing more responsibility for waste management. It is up to us all to dispose of equipment in an environmentally aware and responsible way.

Most business equipment will need to be replaced and disposed of at some point owing to breakdown or wear and tear. In particular, with the fast pace of innovation in the IT market, computer equipment can have a short shelf-life if you want to keep up with the latest technology.

Qual-IT London Limited is not a large enough organisation to have a written environmental policy in place, but we recycle everything we can and when supplying new equipment we attempt to purchase the old where possible and recondition or break it for parts.

We realise we all have a responsibility to look after the environment and we have made a positive decision to recycle and reuse wherever possible. We believe this is good environmental management practice and helps to reduce costs.

Laptop purchases

Where possible with laptops that have been received for repair and the repairs are uneconomical or the customer does not wish to proceed we will usually offer to purchase the equipment with a view to a) repair and resale as second hand or b) break for parts to repair other laptops or sell onto other laptop repairers.

Parts that we cannot use are disposed in conjunction with the WEEE regulations and in the correct ethical manner.

WEEE and you.

We have come across companies that have been storing their old laptops only to find the value is now zero; we offer a service whereby we buy old or broken laptops and ensure that parts from these are recycled or disposed of correctly. We offer a collect as you go scheme which minimises handling and storage problems for you, gives obsolete or written off equipment a new lease of life and offsets the problem of environmental waste.

We will quote on and remove any laptops irrespective of value.

Data protection policy

Where equipment contains physical non volatile memory, hard disk drives, USB memory devices or any other storage containing customer data we will use secure MoD multiple pass technologies to destroy the data so that it can not be retrieved.
